Job Overview:

Joshua Tree Trading Post is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Retail Associate to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our front-line staff, you will ensure the store’s smooth operation by handling a variety of essential tasks. Y our role will encompass restocking, product tagging, store upkeep, guest interactions, and running the checkout counter. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, community-oriented retail environment where customer experience is a top priority.

Key Responsibilities

Restocking & Inventory Management:

  • Replenish store shelves and ensure products are properly displayed and in stock.
  • Assist with receiving and processing new shipments; unpack, organize, and store merchandise.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and identify discrepancies.
  • Rotate stock as needed to ensure products are fresh and appropriately presented.
  • Manage backstock organization and ensure storage areas remain tidy and accessible.

Product Tagging & Merchandising:

  • Accurately tag, label, and price items.
  • Assist with in-store displays to showcase merchandise and promotions, maintaining visual merchandising standards.
  • Collaborate with management to highlight key products and seasonal items.

Store Maintenance & Cleaning:

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the store, including sales floor, fitting rooms, checkout counters, and break areas.
  • Ensure that the store meets health and safety guidelines, including sanitizing high-touch areas.
  • Assist with store opening and closing procedures, ensuring the store is ready for business or secured at the end of the day.

Guest Interactions & Customer Service:

  • Greet customers warmly and offer assistance as needed.
  • Engage with guests to provide product information, suggest additional items, and answer any questions about the store or
  • products.
  • Help resolve customer concerns or complaints in a professional, efficient manner.
  • Foster a welcoming and positive shopping environment, ensuring guests leave satisfied with their experience.

Checkout & POS Operations:

  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system to process customer transactions efficiently and accurately.
  • Handle cash, credit card, and digital payment methods, ensuring secure and accurate transactions.
  • Provide quick, courteous, and accurate service during busy times.
  • Process returns or exchanges according to company policies.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with seasonal promotions, sales events, and in-store events when needed.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support the overall success of the store.
  • Participate in occasional training sessions to stay updated on store policies, new products, and customer service techniques.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (college education preferred).
  • Previous retail experience or customer service experience preferred but not required; we are willing to train the right candidate.
  • Strong familiarity with computers and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Experience with Shopify or similar POS systems is a significant plus.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to engage with guests and handle inquiries.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow instructions and ensure accuracy in pricing, tagging, and checkout.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment and prioritize tasks as needed.
  • Physically capable of lifting and stocking heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and standing for extended periods.
  • Team-oriented mindset, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and management.
  • Problem-solving skills to address customer concerns and help ensure smooth store operations.
