Weekend Take-Homes: Joshua Tree Souvenirs Worth Packing
In town for the Gem Show, Orchid Festival, or outdoor market? Pack-home tees, patches, totes, and desert cards in stock this weekend at JT Trading Post.
On this page
This is one of those October weekends when Highway 62 feels full for a good reason. The Joshua Tree Gem & Mineral Show runs through Sunday at Joshua Tree Lake, the 31st Morongo Basin Orchid Festival is today and tomorrow in Landers, and our outdoor market is open Saturday and Sunday in the courtyard. If you're in town for any of that, here's a short list of take-homes that were actually in stock this morning — things worth packing, not things we wish we still had.
For the tote / trail day
Start with a bag that can handle the day. The Joshua Tree Tote Bag from Opal Atlas ($28) is the easy grab for the Gem Show, the market, or a water bottle and snacks before you head toward the park. Add a Joshua Tree Clear Sticker ($4) or Joshua Tree Holographic Sticker ($4) for the hydro flask, and a Joshua Tree Postcard ($1) if you still send one from the road.
For something that clips on and stays put: the Desert Queen Keychain ($8) or Oasis of Mara Keychain ($8). Both are solid Opal Atlas stock this morning.
For the fridge, desk, or jacket
If you want the trip to show up after you get home, patches and pins are the move. In stock today:
- Joshua Tree Chenille Patch — $12
- Joshua Tree Fan Club Patch — $7
- Joshua Tree National Park Round Patch — $9
- Golden State Chenille Patch — $12
- Joshua Tree Pin — $12
- Golden State Enamel Pin — $12 (salmon, pea soup, mint, and orange)
The Joshua Tree National Park Magnet ($8) is the fridge version of the same idea. For the kitchen or desk, the Chips Mug from Opal Atlas ($34) comes in mustard, khaki, and orange splash — a little louder than a souvenir mug, and useful every morning.
A tee that says you were here
Graphic tees are the classic basin take-home for a reason. Checked this morning with sizes still on the rack:
- JT Believe Tee — Roaming Travelers — $48 (XS–XL)
- Roaming Desert Vibes T-Shirt — $48 (S–XL)
- Longhorn Bull Shirt — $38 (S–XL)
Wear one to the market, wash it when you get home, and it still reads like Joshua Tree.
A small ritual for later
When the weekend slows down, bring a little of the basin indoors. The Twentynine Palms Candle from Roaming Travelers ($30) is a straightforward desert scent — and we only had five on hand this morning, so if you want one, don't wait until Sunday night. Palo Santo sticks are $2 each and easy to toss in a tote with everything else.
Cards for the people who couldn't come
Not everyone makes the trip. Opal Atlas wildlife greeting cards (~$5.50) are the right size to mail or leave on a kitchen counter:
- Desert Tortoise
- Coyote
- Desert Hare
- Great Horned Owl
- Bobcat
- Gambel's Quail
- Joshua Tree
- Mojave Yucca
- Kangaroo Rat
- Giant Hairy Scorpion
